Scottie Scheffler and Ludvig Aberg are the only eligible players not in the field. Scheffler had planned to miss all along because of the impending birth of his first child. Aberg has a knee issue and said he needed a week of rest. ... Quail Hollow will host the PGA Championship next year for the second time. ... Webb Simpson, a Quail Hollow member, received one of four sponsor exemptions. He has received four exemptions to signature events this year. ... The top three finishers from the CJ Cup Byron Nelson — Taylor Pendrith, Ben Kohles and Alex Noren — played their way into the Wells Fargo Championship through the Swing Five. Dominican Republic winner Billy Horschel also is part of the Swing Five and makes his debut in a signature event this year. ... The winner gets into the PGA Championship next week if not already eligible.
